Dry skin can be freaking annoying!! After reading through million stories of how to soothe dry skin, I willfully deceived myself into believing that skincare is pretty simple. I always avoided the hot shower, slathered myself with a rich moisturizer, obsessively coated my lips with Vaseline, but sadly in spite of all efforts, my skin was extremely dull, dry and flaky. I was quite skeptical about trying out any new cosmetic range as my skin is exquisitely sensitive. It took time to realize the beauty industry spends a million bucks to advertise their products smartly with big promises!!! Sorry, no more I’m falling for it again!!

Shifting to natural remedies is probably the biggest trend right now and for the very reason, I decided to experiment with my skin. After all, there is no harm in giving my skin some organic boost wink

Before that let’s find out what causes dry skin?

Normally healthy skin is coated with a thin layer of natural lipids or fatty substances that retain moisture and protect your skin. Your skin dries out due to internal or external environmental factors when your skin is stripped of natural oils leaving them unprotected. Some of the common causes of dry skin are:

  • Weather: Temperature and changes in humidity can affect your skin. It gets driest during winters as air draws the moisture right out of your skin. Consider putting a humidifier at your home or office.
  • Hot Shower: Prolonged stay in hot water can strip away your natural oils that protect your skin leaving your skin extremely dry. Try taking bath in lukewarm water.
  • Harsh Soaps: Soap can strip away your skin’s protective oils. For dry skincare always use fragrance-free soaps.
  • Other Skin Conditions: People with skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis can cause skin dryness. In such cases consider taking your doctor’s advice.

Now I’m thrilled to share my favorite simple and easy herbal face masks that worked like magic on my skin.

How To Soothe Dry Skin?

1. Aloe vera And Honey:

This is holy grail for my skin. It’s been 3 months I have been using this religiously. My skin has never felt so soft and supple. Aloe vera gel contains anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties which heals dry and flaky skin. It even contains antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that deeply nourishes your skin. Honey, on the other hand, is a natural humectant that keeps your skin hydrated. It acts as a natural moisturizer that can penetrate deep inside and provide the necessary nutrition your skin requires.

Take one aloe leaf, cut it open and scoop out the gel. Mix it with 1 tablespoon raw honey to get a smooth consistency. Apply it evenly all over your face, you can massage in circular motions.

Let it sit for 30 minutes then wipe it off gently with your wet towel. Do this daily to get the best results.

2. Aloe Vera And Turmeric:

Another interesting way to perk up your dull skin is using aloe vera and turmeric (Haldi). Turmeric is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that can treat pimples, brighten dark spots, treat fine lines and wrinkles.

Just add a pinch of organic turmeric to aloe vera gel and apply evenly on your face. Sit back and relax for 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water.

This face pack can be a little bit messy as turmeric can stain stuff so make sure to use your old t-shirt wink

3. Neem Leaves And Turmeric:

Neem has incredible skin healing properties that can treat any skin irritation, rashes, blemishes, and itchiness. It’s antibacterial and antifungal properties prevents any future breakouts. And when it is combined with turmeric, the result will blow your mind. 

Just blend some neem leaves in a blender to make a smooth paste. Add a pinch of turmeric and mix it well. Layer it evenly all over your face and leave it for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse it with water once it dries.

As a word of caution, turmeric may irritate your skin so always do a patch test to see how the ingredients react to your skin.

4. Milk Cream And Besan:

Winters can be a nightmare if you have extremely dry skin but not to worry cuz this simple face pack can be your saviour!! Besan or gram flour has been used as a cleansing agent for centuries for its de-tanning and skin brightening benefits. And the saturated fat content of milk cream or malai helps to treat your dry and dull skin. So when both the ingredients are mixed together it acts as a wonderful moisturizer.

All you need is mix your milk cream with besan to make a thick paste. You can also add a pinch of turmeric. Apply evenly all over your skin and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water once it dries.

If you’re allergic to besan then you can replace it with atta or wheat flour.

You won’t see magical results overnight, on regular application you can see the difference in your skin. All the 4 masks are ridiculously simple that soothes your skin plus you’ll start to see some brightening and calming effects. It will make your skin clear, smooth and also removes tan. Trust me your skin will absolutely LOVE IT!!!
